  1. Using libraries, search methods (indexes, catalogues)Check Spelling
  2. Advantages: various different sources to collect information from, different types of texts
    disadvantages:Harder to search for information as the library contains allot of information, Some information is old and dated and may contain wrong facts
  3. Using the Internet, search methods (search engines)
  4. Advantages: its quick and to the point, the information is always updated
    Disadvantages: searches don't always return the results you want, information is not always correct
  5. Photocopying and highlighting key quotes and images
  6. Advantages: it's quick and if you want to go back and get a quote it's there exactly
    Disadvantages: it takes more effort to read it, no

  7. Making notes
  8. Advantages:you can take down the important information and leave the things you dont want out.
    Disadvantages: you can make mistakes and the information may not be reliable
  9. Interviews (written, recorded)
  10. Advantages:your source of information is from the person themself and not from the internet
    Disadvantages: they could lie and the information doesn't have a backup source
  11. Observations
  12. Advantages: If you observe something you can see for yourself whats going
    Disadvantages: The person could act different if your observing them
  13. Questionnaires
  14. Advantages: its more private as it enables you to do it by yourself and it gives you a vast majority of info
    Disadvantages: you have to take time out of your day to fill it in
  15. Surveys
  16. Advantages: you don' have to write it yourself you only have to answer the questions.
    Disadvantages: it's not very private
  17. Focus groups
  18. Advantages: You can see what everyone thinks because you can all share opinions.
    Disadvantages:It's hard to record all the information down
  19. Meetings
  20. Advantages: everyone you need is there to contribute
  21. Disadvantages: after youve finished a meeting you need to come back to decide on a solution.

Understanding Research Methods and Techniques

Q1 What research have you done (or could you do) that can be called primary research?
A type of primary research that i have done is interviews

Q2 What research have you collected (or could you collect) that can be called secondary research?
A piece of secondary research i have used is when i read a film review and used it for information and facts for my work.

Q3 What research have you done (or could you do) that can be called qualitative?
Qualitative research i have used is when i was doing a powerpoint for my teacher and had to include other peoples opinions and thoughts on the music channel i was researching.

Q4 What research have you done (or could you do) that can be called quantitative?
quantitive research you could use is if you done a questionarre and counted how much people felt a certain way about a music video.

What is research?

research is what people do when they need to find out information about a certain person, subject, object etc. They usually use sources such as books, the internet, files, leaflets etc.
